The Asian University for Women’s mandate is to demonstrate through its design and construction a sustainable way to build within Bangladesh’s endangered and unique landscape of steep hills and valleys. Brown Sardina assisted in creating a campus master plan which maintained the unique site typology and respect these cultural traditions. The new Southeast Asian university will enroll and house a total of 2500 students and 200 faculty on campus.
The campus plan fully integrated the building program, campus circulation, landscape aesthetics, amenities, and stormwater management into the steep terrain. Within the campus valley exists a sequence of courtyards and water basins which act as the organizing elements to structure the academic core. The residential facilities follow the existing topography to create unique terraces which frame the views of the surrounding planned and natural landscape. Circulation towers and covered arcades connect the upper and lower campus to provide a comfortable area during the rainy season.
