The Specialty Care Pavilion is an addition to the Stamford Hospital which was formed through the reorganization of the adjacent parking lot to create a drop-off area and courtyard for the proposed hospital wing. Brown Sardina provided regulatory approval services, design and construction documentation for the project.
The courtyard acts as an extension to the circulation of the Specialty Care Pavilion with a diagonal walk which extends from the drop off area through the courtyard and terminates at a nine foot tall sculptural granite stone that is visible from the interior circulation areas. Paving extends from inside the new building into the courtyard and is juxtaposed by planting on the west side of the diagonal walk. Lawn meanders through the spaces as a counter point to the planting which is organized by the rhythm of the building columns. Raised, mounded planting floats through the courtyard providing year-round color and texture.
