Brown Sardina assisted in the 210 acre master plan for the former Kazakhstan capital city. The Almaty Financial District is a planned compilation of unique structures centered around a 20 acre central park and the Almaty Cultural Center. Initially, the spine was introduced to unify the district but with more than 100 feet of elevation change, from front to back, it helped alleviate the grading challenges. Each site and structure in the master plan addressed this unique challenge and ultimately blended into a kit of interconnected public and private spaces.
Each parcel was planned to facilitate 1 million ft2 of commercial space, 65,000 ft2 of retail space, 1,000 residential units and 3 acres of public spaces. The district accommodates 14,000 vehicles, which equates to 2 levels of below grade parking per parcel. Additional amenities include; interactive plazas, relaxing parks, outdoor eating spaces, fountains, and flexible seating opportunities.
