Angier Elementary School is the first in a series of new and renovated elementary schools throughout Newton. Located near Waban Center and MBTA Green Line station, the school is bounded by a residential neighborhood, churches, an assisted living community and abuts to a shared community park.
The site plan utilizes all sides of the school for teaching and play opportunities. At the front, an expansive terrace is anchored by a custom wood pergola and a stone signage wall which protects the terrace from the bus and automobile drop off. The multi-function space is used as outdoor classroom, school garden, and gathering space. The rear playground areas include; K-2 and 3-5 grade specific net structures, a basketball court, gaga pit, four square and musical play instruments. Adjacent to the cafeteria is a covered plaza space with curved wood benches and a wall mounted blackboard for teaching opportunities and student art.
