The Foxborough State Psychiatric Hospital was built in 1889, closed in 1975, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, and redeveloped into Chestnut Green in 2005. Envisioned as a “live, work, play” mixed use community, Chestnut Green accommodates a variety of housing typologies, retail shops, commercial spaces, and expansive open areas for residents.
Brown Sardina developed the Master Plan, secured approvals and prepared design and construction plans for 95 acre development. The final plan respected and preserved the historic architecture and existing 120+ year old vegetation. Buildings and associated commons areas were re-purposed to create accessible and vibrant spaces for the users. Additionally, as part of the final plan a new police station, a renovated public auditorium and recreational fields were designed and constructed.
