Lisa Barth Interfaith Chapel Garden
Lisa Barth Interfaith Chapel Garden
Kansas City, MO, USA
The Lisa Barth Interfaith Chapel Garden provides a quiet, meditative and spiritual space where all are welcome amidst the joys and sorrows of the hospital experience. The design was informed through the various input from spiritual leaders, nurses, child life specialists and the hospital administration to create a garden away from the clinical setting and blends with Mercy’s holistic approach to medicine.
Located entirely on-structure and south oriented, the garden is accessed from the Chapel by doors on the east and west face of the sanctuary. A curving walkway connects these doors with planting along the edge of the structure and curved glass chapel wall. An interactive tapered stone fountain spills water over a hovering glass disc and calms the mind and relaxing the spirit. A kinetic sculpture lazily moves in the wind. Sculptural wood benches and seat walls meander beneath the shade of the magnolia, redbud, crape myrtle and sculptural pine trees. Missouri Prairie wildflowers, small grasses, shrubs, bulbs and perennials provide a backdrop of seasonal interest.
