Designed to LEED for Schools Gold Certification, the site plan incorporates sustainable site planning strategies, bioretention basins, heat island mitigation, recycling and reuse strategies and native landscape planting. Services included the design of all site elements including site circulation, roadways, parking, paving, grading and planting.
The main entry is expressed in a series of oval mounds and provide spatial definition to the plaza. Curved wooden benches follow the shape of the mounds to define multiple occupiable spaces for students. Sinuous ground plane forms protrude from the building and across the vehicular drive to the landscape beyond to announce the entry and screen the parking. Bioretention basins and native drought tolerant plants are integrated into the parking lot to help mitigate storm water run off and will become part of the environmental science curriculum. At the rear of the building are new multi-purpose fields and little league sized field for community use.
