The Tata Medical Center is a special care facility located in central Kolkata, which prides themselves on providing a patient-centered experience which engenders hope and strength. Master planned in two phases, the interconnected plan includes a main hospital, classrooms and lecture halls, radiation therapy, dining pavilions, and support services. Buildings and overhangs are oriented to capture the prevailing winter and summer winds and help define continuously shaded and comfortable all-season outdoor spaces.
Central parks, courtyards, and intimate gardens make up the network of open spaces. Each has a unique form, material, and vegetation palette to blend harmoniously with the adjacent architecture. Water and evaporative cooling is used in almost every space to provide a link to one another, but each is uniquely expressed by geometrical or organic forms. By contrast, intimate garden spaces use natural materials, boulders, small waterfalls and pools to create a quiet place for patients and visitors.
